Speech by Executive Director Robert M. George
Good afternoon, Mayor Michelle Wu, Commissioner Michael Cox, and District Attorney Kevin Hayden.
On behalf of Roxbury Main Streets and the small business community of Nubian Square, I want to express our sincere gratitude to the Mayor’s Office and the Boston Police Department for your recent commitment to increasing foot patrols and law enforcement presence in our business district. A special thank you to Mayor Wu for lighting up the nights in Nubian Square with vibrant new streetlights.
Your leadership and responsiveness to our calls for greater public safety have made a real difference. The visible presence of our officers on the ground, as well as public health team has not only helped reduce petty crime but has also made the area more welcoming to residents, visitors, and shoppers. Business owners are seeing the change. Families are becoming more comfortable. And the overall atmosphere in Nubian Square is becoming more vibrant, secure, and business-friendly.
This is what partnership looks like—and we are deeply appreciative.
As we move forward, Roxbury Main Streets is excited to continue collaborating with the BPD, especially on the upcoming Safe Shopping Initiative. Together, we can ensure that Nubian Square remains a safe, thriving destination—one where our diverse business community can grow and our neighborhoods can flourish.
Thank you again for your leadership, commitment, and continued support of Roxbury.
